Priced at the rates the highest-paying platforms already publish, the world's creations are worth trillions a year. Almost none of it reaches the people who made them.

There are roughly 5.66 billion social media identities on earth, and almost every one of them is a producer. Yet the measured creator economy is worth about $250 billion a year. Price the same output at the rates the highest-paying platforms already publish, and the gap becomes the largest unpaid invoice in economic history.

The premium valuation: $11.69 trillion

Four pools carry global creation. Video: ~182.5 trillion annual views across YouTube, TikTok, Reels, Bilibili, Douyin and Kuaishou, paid at a top-tier $4.00 RPM, is $730 billion. Text and professional posts: 365 trillion impressions at a premium $2.50 CPM is $912.5 billion. High-value professional, academic and creative assets — theses, papers, news reports, music, art, code — some 500 million a year at $100 licensing equivalence, add $50 billion. Then the largest pool: about 100 trillion units of human-made AI training data at $0.10 per unit, worth $10 trillion.

Adjusting for reality

Split AI corpora into premium data (5 trillion units of clean code, books and journals at $0.50) and standard data (95 trillion consumer units at $0.05), and the total settles at $8.94 trillion. Distributed 2% power creators against 98% everyday users, that is $41,396 a year per power creator and $767 per ordinary citizen — money most people never knew they had earned.

Why the money disappears

Weighting payouts by regional purchasing power drops the pool to $3.44 trillion. Even at that conservative floor, more than 90% of what creation is worth never reaches a creator. It leaks through unregistered rights, demonetised accounts, untracked reuse, uncredited scraping and platforms with no obligation to count. Nothing about that requires a copyright, a trademark or a patent to fix — it requires tracking.

The creator economy is not small. It is unmeasured — and unmeasured income is unpaid income.

EARNIN TRACKER exists for that reason: to index every use of every creation worldwide and remit what is owed to the person, team or institution that made it — first payment guaranteed within 90 days of signing up.

Frequently asked

How much would creators earn if every piece of content were paid?
Between $3.44 trillion (weighted by regional purchasing power) and $11.69 trillion (flat premium rates) a year, versus the ~$250 billion creator economy measured today.
Why is AI training data the biggest unpaid category?
Roughly 100 trillion units of human-made text, code, images and video are used to train models each year. At commercial licensing rates of $0.05–$0.50 per unit that is $4.75–$10 trillion of value, almost none of which is remitted to the people who produced it.
Do I need copyright or a trademark to be paid for my content?
No. Tracking usage does not depend on any registered right. EARNIN TRACKER indexes reuse and remits income whether or not a work is registered and whether or not a platform has the account monetised.
How much would an average user receive?
Under the tiered model, about $767 per year for an everyday user and roughly $41,396 per year for a top 2% power creator or organisation, before regional adjustment.
