Art & Design: The Resale And Reproduction Money You Never See

An image keeps working long after it leaves the studio. Resale rights, print licensing and reproduction fees are supposed to follow it.

Visual work is the most reproduced creative output in commerce and the least traceable. A single photograph or illustration can appear on a product line, a landing page, a print-on-demand storefront, ten thousand social reposts and inside a training corpus — all in the same quarter, all from one original file.

Rights that exist but rarely pay

Resale right entitles artists to a share when a work changes hands again. Reproduction rights cover prints, packaging and editorial use. Editions and stock licences cover commercial deployment. These mechanisms are well established; the failure is administrative. Nobody links the reproduction event back to a payable identity, so the money either stays with the reseller or is never billed at all.

Artists, photographers and designers indexed on the platform, resolved from public profiles. Photos remain the property of each account holder and are shown for editorial identification only.

Tracking indexes the appearance, matches it to the verified creator behind the original, and opens a ledger line. That works for gallery-represented artists and for someone posting sketches from a phone.

Reproduction is not exposure. Reproduction is a transaction with a missing invoice.

Frequently asked

Do I need to register my artwork to be paid?
No. Reproduction and resale events are tracked from the work itself once your identity is verified.
Does this cover photography and design as well as fine art?
Yes. Photographs, illustrations, product design, packaging and stage design are all tracked as visual works.
What if my image was used in an AI training set?
Dataset inclusion is recorded as a licensing event and added to your ledger like any other reuse.
